Where do the cats come from in high school cat dissections?

Answer 1

There are a couple of answers here, but know that the cats are treated with respect: fed, taken care of, and put down without pain.

They were purchased from a dissection animal center when I was a college student. The cats were obtained from unwanted litters, animal shelters, or collections; males and females were kept apart to avoid unintended pregnancies; however, they had spacious play areas and individual cages, just like in animal shelters. The cats were also examined by a veterinarian to ensure their health.

When I got home, I swore my own cat knew what I was doing and felt very sad, but at least I knew that these unwanted cats had a clean, warm, and welcoming place to stay before they had to live hard, painful lives on the streets.

Answer 2

The cats used in high school cat dissections typically come from biological supply companies that specialize in providing preserved specimens for educational purposes. These companies often obtain their specimens from various sources, including animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and research facilities.
