Why is a virus hard to kill?

Answer 1

A thing that isn't alive in the first place cannot be killed.

A virus is not a living thing if you remember the seven requirements for something to be considered a living thing. These requirements are:

Viruses cannot replicate without the assistance of a host cell; they cannot metabolize; they cannot maintain homeostasis; and they are not made of cells.

Since we cannot destroy something that was never alive, viruses are extremely dangerous. If we are unable to eradicate viruses, we can only treat their effects on living things, which can quickly spiral out of control in situations like HIV/AIDS patients, where the virus can become quite violent and the patient's immune system is unable to react quickly enough to stop the symptoms.

Answer 2

Because viruses can mutate, evade the immune system, and adapt to antiviral treatments, they are difficult to eradicate.
