What is the purpose of chiasmus?

As a self confessed fan of chiasmus, I think it has several purposes:

To give structure and poetic form, making text more digestible and memorable.

To set the scene and draw the reader from where they are into the core, from the outer courts into the inner courts.

To protect the essential core at the heart of the chiasmus and draw attention to it.

The purpose of chiasmus is to create a rhetorical effect by reversing the order of words or phrases in parallel structures. This technique often adds balance, emphasis, and symmetry to the language, making the expression more memorable and engaging to the audience. Chiasmus can also highlight contrasts, draw attention to key ideas, or create a sense of rhythm in the text. Overall, the purpose of chiasmus is to enhance the clarity and impact of the message being communicated.
