What is habitat alteration?

Answer 1

Habitat Alteration is a change in land use or land cover that has a impact on local ecosystems.

Plants and animals live in specific places that have the conditions of climate and food resources needed for survival. Over time a habitat is subject to alteration, especially under the influence of human activities.

The most obvious causes of habitat alterations are deforestation and conversion of wild grasslands to agricultural land. Extracting materials for land and water also leads to alteration in habitats. Clearing green cover for building roads, and human recreational activities like sailing, fishing, hiking and adventure sports are may cause habitat alterations.

Habitat Alteration may lead to habitat loss and is the greatest current threat to the living species. Sustainable use of land and water is needed to minimise the impact of habitat alteration.
