The Universe will expand forever, as today's research says so. There's this mysterious force called Dark Energy, that is accelerating (or speeding up) the expansion of the Universe.

There is more of this unidentified dark energy than there is gravity, and it is much stronger. The only theories regarding the fate of the Universe are as follows: if the number and size of galaxies increase, the density of the Universe (and therefore the gravity) will also increase, slowing down the Universe and potentially leading to its collapse.
