Since we are looking backwards in time wherever we are in the universe, the problem is particularly enigmatic. The closest we can get to seeing things as they truly are is in the quadrant of our galaxy where we live.

For example, the Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million light years away, which essentially means we are viewing it as it was 2.5 million years ago.

Given that everything in the universe is in motion and that our galaxy is expanding at an ever-accelerating rate, it follows that we are not only seeing things as they were millions or billions of years ago, but also where they used to be rather than where they are right now.
