What protects us from cosmic background radiation?

Answer 1

Nothing "protects" us from cosmic background radiation. But it is of very low intensity and poses no danger at all.

The "background" of intergalactic space is essentially the temperature of cosmic background radiation, which is only roughly 2.7 Kelvins (it used to be hotter, but it has cooled off with the continued expansion of the Universe).

It takes very sensitive instruments even to detect and measure the cosmic background radiation. The majority of objects immediately around us are approximately 100 times hotter; according to the Stefan-Boltznann Law (https://tutor.hix.ai), this means the immediate ambient environment produces thermal radiation about 100 million times as intense as the cosmic background.

Answer 2

We are shielded from cosmic background radiation by the Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere, which deflect charged particles away from the surface of the planet and scatter high-energy cosmic rays.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
