What is the taxonomic classification for a rabbit?

Answer 1

Generally, rabbits and their close relatives belong to the Leporidae family.

The term "rabbit" is used to refer to a wide variety of mammal species. These species are classified as belonging to the Animalia kindom, the Chordata phyllum, the Vertebrata subphylum, the Mammalia class, the Lagomorpha order (which includes rabbits, hares, and pikas), and, finally, the Leporidae (which includes rabbits and hares). In particular, the term "rabbit" is used to refer to eight different genera: Pentalagus, Sylvivagus, Brachylagus, Bunolagus, Nesolagus, Romerolagus, Oryctolagus, and Poelagus. The most common species, the european rabbit, is known as Orictolagus cuniculus.
