What is the role of slime molds in the environment?

Answer 1

Slime moulds belong to the kingdom protista. They are also called 'false fungi' or 'animal fungi'

They are called "animal fungi" because, like animals, they reproduce by spores with chitinous cell walls, which is a fungal characteristic. They are found on decaying twigs and rocks. Like fungi, they are a group of decomposers and aid in recycling minerals and important compounds like carbon and nitrogen. Hence the name "false fungi."
