What is the difference in electronegativity in a #C-C# bond? What type of bond is it?

Answer 1

Well, ZERO....

The constituent atoms of the bond are the SAME....and there is thus ZERO electronegativity difference...#C-C# bonds are thus non-polar. In addition there is LITTLE difference in the electronegativities of carbon and hydrogen, #2.54_C# and #2.11_H# on the Pauling scale....#C-H# bonds are also non-polar.

The result is that hydrocarbons tend to be non-polar molecules....

A C-C bond is a nonpolar covalent bond in which the electronegativity difference is negligible.

Answer 3

In a C-C bond, the electronegativity difference is zero. This means that the electrons in the bond are shared equally between the two carbon atoms. Therefore, a C-C bond is a nonpolar covalent bond.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
