Renal cortex, renal medulla, and renal pelvis are the three regions that make up the kidneys. 1. Renal cortex: this region contains the glomeruli and convoluted tubules that are involved in the filtration and initial processing of blood. 2. Renal Medulla: this region is made up of renal pyramids that contain the loops of Henle and collecting ducts that are responsible for reabsorption of water, ions, and other substances from the filtrate. 3. Renal Pelvis: This region serves as the central collecting area where urine from the nephrons is collected and directed into the ureter for the body's excretion.
