Sun stars it life from a huge cloud of gas hydrogen and dust called nebula.

Due to gravity more mass of gases are accumulated in one place it become a proto star.and when it reaches huge size temperature and pressure inside increases.
When temperature is about 15 million deg c nuclear fusion starts and a star is formed. increases stage is called main sequence,Sun continues in this state for about 10 billion years. When whole hydrogen and helium is finished star become red giant.outer layers are puffed out.At the center the core become a white dwarf.
