Acetyl-CoA enters the Krebs cycle, also referred to as the citric acid cycle, and combines with oxaloacetate to form citrate. Citrate is then oxidized through a series of enzymatic reactions, releasing carbon dioxide and producing ATP, NADH, and FADH2. This cycle then regenerates oxaloacetate to continue the process.
