Geothermal energy is predicted to last over a billion years, but before it runs out, the sun will become a red dwarf and annihilate the earth.

The source of geothermal energy is the Earth's extremely hot inner core, which reaches temperatures that are visible to us due to massive convection currents in the mantle and inner core. These currents continuously alter the Earth's surface, as evidenced by the land and sea volcanoes and earthquakes.

The other heat process is thermal conduction, which is heat that is directly transferred from the inner core to the outside of the Earth. It is a process that takes a long time to complete because the heat must first travel through the outer core, then the inner and outer mantles, and finally the Earth's crust.

Then there is the heat produced by continuing nuclear reactions, which are exacerbated by the exothermic decay of a number of long-lived radioactive elements in the earth.

In light of these occurrences, geothermal energy will never run out due to human usage limitations.
