Transpiration is the process by which water moves from a tree's roots to its leaves. It depends on the cohesion and adhesion properties of water molecules as well as the evaporation of water from the leaves. Transpiration creates a negative pressure in the leaves, pulling water up through the xylem vessels in the tree's stem.
