How does electromagnetic radiation affect plants?

Answer 1

One effect I know of is that plants use light (EM radiation) to perform photosynthesis and, basically, store energy for future use.

Energy from Sunlight is used by plants to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugar that can be used later and converted back into energy to be used by the plant.

Answer 2

Electromagnetic radiation, particularly in the form of light, plays a crucial role in photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light energy into chemical energy. Different wavelengths of light can affect plant growth and development in various ways. Blue light, for example, is essential for promoting vegetative growth and is important for the regulation of stomatal opening. Red light, on the other hand, is crucial for flowering and fruiting. Additionally, excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be harmful to plants, causing damage to DNA and proteins.
