Since poly means many, a polymer is made up of numerous monomers joined together.

The monomer in the carbohydrates group is called a monosacharide; monocasharides join together to form a polyshacharide.

Sacharide is shorthand for sugar.

Another class of carbohydrates is known as disacharides, from the Greek di meaning "two," because they only contain two monomers.
