How are chromosomes related to chromatin?

Answer 1

A chromosome is a condensed form of chromatin.

Chromatin is DNA packaged by histones.

Answer 2

Chromosomes and chromatin are related in that they are both structures within the cell nucleus that contain DNA, the genetic material of the cell. Chromatin is the complex of DNA and proteins, mainly histones, that make up chromosomes. It is the less condensed form of DNA in the cell and is present during most of the cell cycle. Chromatin condenses to form chromosomes during cell division, specifically during the metaphase of mitosis and meiosis, making the chromosomes visible under a microscope. Thus, chromosomes are essentially condensed chromatin, structured to facilitate the equal distribution of genetic material to daughter cells during cell division.
