The Kiowas are an indigenous tribe of Native Americans. Originally from what is today western Montana they migrated southward into the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in the 17th and 18th centuries and then into the Southern Plains by the early 19th century. In 1867, after signing a treaty with the government of the United States the Kiowa were moved to a reservation in southwestern Oklahoma.
