Are the kidneys located posterior, anterior, inferior or medial to the heart?
The kidneys are inferior (below), posterior (back) and lateral to the heart.
The heart sits in the mediastinum (central compartment of the thoracic cavity) while the kidneys are further down on the retroperitoneum (the space in the abdominal cavity behind the peritoneum/ membrane).
They are below the heart - inferior.
They are behind the heart - posterior.
They are further away from the midline - lateral.
The kidneys are connected to the heart, and supplied with blood, via the vena cava.
I hope this helps! I went and quizzed my father (who is a urologist and so has a lot of experience with finding kidneys! Let me know if I can do anything else:)
