What are the main types of air masses?

There are 6 based on the areas they are formed in.

Depending on whether they form over land or sea, air masses are classified as continental or maritime. Additionally, the closest air masses to the poles are classified as continental and maritime Arctic, followed by continental and maritime Polar, and lastly, continental and maritime Tropical. These classifications are based on temperature.
