In 1492 Spain made the initial contact with American Continents. By 1792 three hundred years later, The American Colonies were the major power in North America.

The American Colonies and their British allies had defeated the French in seven year global war that started in the Ohio River Valley of North America. The American Colonies had fought England to a stand still in the war for American Independence leaving the American Colonies in control of most of North America east of the Mississippi River.

Spain had yield control of Florida and later Mississippi. to the Americans. Spain had control of Mexico, and tenuous control of parts of North America north of Mexico and west of the Mississippi River.

Spain and its later independent colony of Mexico would struggle for control North America until Mexico's defeat in the Mexican American war in the 1840's

By 1790's though Spain was still a major power in North America, the British retained control of Canada, the American Colonies had become the dominate force in North America.
