Why is moho important?

Answer 1

The Mohorovicic Discontinuity, or Moho, is the boundary between the crust and the upper mantle. Its discovery in 1909 was the first direct evidence of the layered structure of the Earth.

Andrija Mohorovicic, a Croation seismologist, made the discovery of the Moho in 1909 while observing how seismic waves moved close to the Earth's surface. He noticed that the waves would accelerate as they descended a few tens of kilometers, and he concluded that this was caused by a constant alteration in the rock's composition, which is now thought to be the boundary between the upper mantle and the crust.

Subsequent discoveries using waves that travel very deep within the Earth show its entire multilayered structure.

Answer 2

The Moho discontinuity, also known as the Mohorovičić discontinuity, is an important geological boundary that marks the transition between the Earth's crust and underlying mantle. It is important for the geophysical and resource exploration industries as well as for understanding the structure and composition of the Earth's interior, which helps scientists study processes like plate tectonics, seismic activity, and the formation of geological features.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
