Where in Africa did Jane Goodall first begin her studies?

Answer 1

Jane Goodall set out to Tanzania to study wild chimpanzees by sitting amongst them.

She traveled to South Kinangop, Kenya, at her friend's invitation, where she met curator Louis Leaky, an anthropologist who worked at the Coryndon Museum in Nairobi. Leaky hired Goodall as his secretary, took her on an anthropological dig, and assigned her to research the vervet monkey, which inhabits an island near Lake Victoria.

Goodall set up camp on the shores of Lake Tangyanika in the Gombe Stream Reserve on July 16, 1960, with the intention of studying chimpanzees and recording their behaviors. She spent time in the trees, mimicked their actions, and consumed their food. By staying in close proximity to the chimps, she was able to record several behaviors that had not been recorded before.

Renowned among her peers in the international scientific community for her pioneering observations of chimpanzees consuming meat and crafting tools, she is also a strong proponent of ecological preservation.
