Where does undigested food go after leaving the small intestines?

Answer 1

After leaving the small intestines, the undigested food enters the colon ( large intestines)

The leftover waste material transforms into semi-solids known as feces when the chyme runs out of nutrients. These pass into the large intestine, where gut flora breaks down any remaining proteins and starches. Water is absorbed here, and the leftover waste material is stored before defecation.

The food that is being broken down in the colon moves much more slowly, taking anywhere from 12 to 50 hours to be eliminated through defecation. The colon is primarily used as a location where the gut flora ferments materials that are easy to digest.

The colon makes up the majority of the GI tract.
