Red giant stars are mainly found in older populations of stars and in the later stages of stellar evolution; they are also frequently observed in globular clusters, where the stars are generally older, in the central regions of galaxies, where older stars are more common, and in the outer regions of galaxies, like the halo, where older stars are also more common.
