What was the goal of the Anaconda Plan?

Strangulation. The Anaconda Plan was proposed by General in Chief Winfield Scott as the guiding strategy for the North during the American Civil War 1861 to 1865.

The name Anaconda, which comes from the large constrictor snake, refers to the plan to strangle the South, split the Eastern Confederacy from Texas, and blockade all Southern ports.

The fundamentals of the plan were promptly accepted by Union leadership; the South, with its agrarian economy and lack of the North's manufacturing capacity, would lose without sufficient supplies of Arms and other manufactured goods to keep its armies in the field and the Civil War would be an attrition war.
