What two things does the engine of a quasar contain?

Answer 1

The engine of a quasar consists of a supermassive black hole and a ready supply of gas and dust.

Most galaxies have a supermassive black hole at their center, and when there is a ready supply of material nearby, it begins to fall into the black hole, forming an accretion disc. This is how quasars usually form in young galaxies.

Since material enters a black hole slowly, as more and more falls into the accretion disc, it becomes superheated by gravity and friction to the point where it releases enormous amounts of radiation.

A quasar's engine consists of two parts: material falling into the supermassive black hole and the black hole itself.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
