In a broad classification of layers in the Earth's atmosphere, the

surface troposphere (clouds sphere) is up to about 10 kkm. The

stratosphere above includes 90% of ozone layer that blocks the

harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun. This extends up to about 50

km.

Temperatures in the mesosphere typically decrease with altitude. Near the lower boundary, temperatures can range from around -90°C (-130°F) to -15°C (5°F). At higher altitudes within the mesosphere, temperatures can drop even further, reaching extreme cold values.
