What planet was first discovered? Who discovered it?

Answer 1

"Earth" would be a very obvious answer... ;-)

Historically, astronomers had identified a number of planets (all the way up to and including Saturn) that moved in a different way from the fixed stars, which is why they were called planets (from the Greek for "wanderer"). Herschel found Uranus to be the first "newly" discovered planet; later, they discovered Neptune through calculations indicating that Uranus' orbit was disturbed. Pluto was discovered much later, but it has since been downgraded to the status of dwarf planet.
