"Inexhaustible" resources do not really exist.

Resources are different things for different reasons, and they typically don't relate to one another in any way. For example, while water isn't dependent on solar energy, food supplies may, but they do have some relationship with water supplies.

Nothing is truly endless because all resources are ultimately forms of energy for use, whether in industry or metabolism. A true distinction might lie in a better definition of "renewable," which is really based on a time-frame. How quickly can a particular resource (food crop, water supply, energy source) be restored after use?

Energy can change forms, but it cannot be destroyed. Moreover, its available forms—many low-energy particles rather than concentrated high-energy ones—may be too widespread to be effectively utilized as a resource.
