What is the purpose of the clavicle?

The clavicle ( collar bone ) is a long bone , which lies horizontally and along with the shoulder blade makes up the shoulder girdle.

The clavicle provides a rigid support that allows the arm to move as much as possible without putting the thorax in danger.

By covering the cervico axillary canal, it shields the neuro vascular bundle that supplies the upper limb.

Impacts from the upper limbs are physically transferred to the axial skeleton by it.
