What is the process of fertilization in plants?

The purpose of the flower is to initiate the process of reproduction. The male parts, specifically the anther, produce pollen, which contains the sperm required to fertilize the egg. The female parts create an unfertilized egg (ovule), which remains in the ovary and waits to be fertilized.

Pollen grains are transferred from the male reproductive organ (anther) to the female reproductive organ (stigma) of a flower during the process of fertilization in plants. Once the pollen lands on the stigma, it germinates and grows a pollen tube, which extends down through the style to reach the ovary, which contains ovules containing female gametes (eggs). The pollen tube releases sperm cells into the ovule, where one of them fuses with the egg, forming a zygote, which then becomes an embryo and the ovule matures into a seed.
