What is the general equation for an acid base titration?

Answer 1

See explanation.

The general acid-base titration equation could be written as:

#HA(aq) + B(aq) ->BH^+(aq) + A^(-)(aq)#

Where,
#HA# represents the acid,
#B# represents the base,
#BH^+# is the conjugate acid of #B# and
#A^(-)# is the conjugate base of #HA#

For strong acid - Strong base titration, the net ionic equation is written as:

#H^+(aq) + OH^(-)(aq)->H_2O(l)#

For weak acid - Strong base titration, the net ionic equation is written as:

#HA(aq) + OH^(-)(aq)->A^(-)(aq) + H_2O(l)#

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
