What is the cell theory?

Definition: One of the fundamental ideas of biology is the cell theory.

The German scientists Rudolph Virchow, Matthias Schleiden, and Theodor Schwann are credited with developing this theory.

According to the theory of cells, every living thing is made up of cells. These cells can be unicellular or multicellular, but they are the fundamental building block of all life, and new cells develop from older ones.

The concepts of the modern Cell Theory are as follows: * All cells share the same basic chemical composition; * Energy flows within cells; * Heredity information (DNA) is passed on from cell to cell.

The cell theory states that:

2. The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life.
