What is the celestial dome?

Answer 1

Celestial Sphere (CS) is a virtual sphere that is the combination of space hemispheres that we see every day and night. Celestial Dome (CD) in planetarium architecture is a sorely miniaturized CS.

The observer in the planetarium is the center of the CD, and the Equator serves as the CS reference plane. The North and South Poles of CS are oriented in the directions of the Earth's North and South Poles, and they are brought down to the planetarium dome as real. The latitude of the planetarium's location can be used to design the CD.

Answer 3

The celestial dome refers to the apparent hemisphere of the sky as observed from a specific location on Earth. It encompasses all celestial objects visible to the naked eye, including stars, planets, the Moon, and other astronomical phenomena. The concept of the celestial dome aids in visualizing the sky's vastness and serves as a reference for astronomers and navigators to study and navigate the positions of celestial bodies.
