A polar bond is a covalent bond where the electron density of the shared electrons is shared unevenly.

When two different atoms form a covalent bond, their electron densities are shared; however, when two atoms form a polar covalent bond, their electron densities are unevenly shared, resulting in a positive and negative pole in the bond.

The poles of a polar covalent bond, like the poles of a magnet, produce an attraction that leads to intermolecular "bonding" and bending within the organic molecule.

Differences in the electronegativity of the two atoms participating in the chemical bonding or electron sharing process give rise to the poles within the polar covalent bond.

A bond with an unequal distribution of electron density that results in the bond having both a positive and a negative side is known as a polar covalent bond.
