What is a definition of insight learning?

Answer 1

The complex form of learning that requires the manipulation of mental concepts for developing an adaptive behaviour is called insight learning.

An example of insight behavior is when a chimpanzee is kept in a cage with a piece of banana hung from the ceiling and several boxes of varying sizes placed inside. The chimpanzee initially believes that it cannot reach the fruit, but after a little while of scratching, it moves the largest box, stacks the other smaller boxes on top of it, and climbs up to reach it. In this way, he used insight to solve a problem that was quite new to him.

Note: Kohier conducted numerous experiments on chimpanzees, demonstrating that they are capable of higher order insight learning.

I hope it's useful.

Answer 2

Insight learning is a form of problem-solving that occurs suddenly through understanding the relationships between various elements of a situation. It involves the sudden realization of a solution to a problem without prior trial-and-error or reinforcement. This type of learning is often associated with higher cognitive processes and is characterized by a "aha!" moment when the solution becomes clear to the learner.
