The majority of the energy stored in our body (that is released by respiration) is in the form of ATP because in the Krebs cycle and glycolysis, ADP (adenosine diphosphate) and an organic phosphate group are fixed together, forming ATP (adenosine triphosphate) with the aid of ATP-synthase. In these ATP molecules, the phosphate group at the end can be broken off chemically to produce the energy required.
