What does a negative blood type mean?
A negative blood type is one in which the D (or Rhesus) antigen is absent.
There are subgroups (sub-types) of blood in addition to the four main blood groups, A, B, AB, and O, depending on whether the D (Rh) surface antigen is present or absent.
A person expresses the D surface antigen and is Rh positive if they are genetically DD or Dd.
The D surface antigen is not expressed and the individual is Rh negative if they are genetically dd.
