What do the Hawaiian Islands and Yellowstone have in common?

Answer 1

Volcanic activity, both are believed to formed by being over a hotspot in the mantle.

The Hawaiian islands are believed to have been formed by the crust passing over a hot spot in the Mantle under the Pacific Ocean. As the crust passed over the hot spot magma was carried to surface of the crust forming the volcanos that are the basis of the Hawaiian Islands.

Yellowstone is a caldera which is the remains of an ancient volcano. There seems to be a hot spot under Yellowstone, that created the super volcano that exploded forming the caldera. Today the hot springs, and geysers are evidence of the continued existence of a hot spot under the Yellowstone caldera.

Both Hawaii and Yellowstone were formed by volcanic activity which is believed to have been caused by a hotspot in the mantle.
