Plants release water vapour into the atmosphere during transpiration.

Transpiration is the process by which plants move water from their roots through their stems to tiny pores on the underside of their leaves, where it is transformed into vapor and expelled.

Even though a plant needs water for growth, metabolism, and the absorption of dissolved nutrients, some of the water is not used by the plant, and transpiration is how it gets rid of extra water.
