What did the Espionage Act of 1917 made illegal?
The Espionage Act, as I understand it, was passed after America entered World War 1 against Germany
This could be said as a patriotic act- it did not allow people to say false statements against the U.S military or government because they feared (I assume) that falsehoods might interfere with the war. False statements could decrease morale or increase anxiety or confuse people. If a military leader heard something like that, it could affect his strategies or tactics (I'm assuming)
