What are the two major subsystems of the nervous system?

Central and peripheral nervous system are major divisions.

The brain and spinal cord make up the central nervous system; the cranial and spinal nervous systems make up the peripheral nervous system; and the body's internal environment is home to the autonomic nervous system. The central nervous system gathers information from its surroundings before the brain and spinal cord act.
