Increased heat stress, asthma, and other cardiovascular and respiratory issues are just a few of the direct effects that climate change will have on human health. Indirect effects are likely to include an increase in the incidence of communicable illnesses, as well as an increase in mortality and injury from more frequent and severe natural disasters (such as floods and forest fires).

The majority of people on Earth live in coastal areas, and about 25% of Bangladesh's population lives in areas that are less than 3 meters above mean sea level. The region is expected to experience a sea level rise of 1 meter by the year 2050 and 2 meters by the end of this century due to a combination of land subsidence and global climate change. The effects of global climate change on Bangladesh would be catastrophic.

Via nutrient cycling and decomposition, changes in climate also have an indirect impact on vegetation cover. In terrestrial ecosystems, these processes are dependent on soil temperature and humidity; decomposition proceeds more quickly in warmer and wetter conditions. A five-degree Celsius increase in soil temperature is expected to result in a sixty percent increase in soil respiration rates, which is a direct result of increased microbial and root respiration. Global climate change is also expected to cause increased rates of decomposition and microbial respiration, which will most likely lead to a notable increase in carbon dioxide emissions from soils to the atmosphere.

It is natural to see dips and rises in global temperatures throughout Earth's climate history due to a variety of physical effects, some of which we are even unaware of. These effects can include impacts from space, like meteorites, or tectonic natural disasters, like volcanic eruptions. Climate change is a natural phenomenon that has occurred over millennia, leading to climates like those of global glaciation (Ice Ages).

Nevertheless, the human race has altered this equilibrium in recent centuries, primarily as a result of the effects of releasing excessive amounts of greenhouse emissions into the atmosphere through the combustion of these finite resources. This has thickened the layer of our atmosphere that serves to insulate our planet by trapping solar thermal energy that is reflected by the earth and cannot escape back into space.

It's helpful to be able to distinguish between the two because this warming has disrupted the global balance and accelerated climate change rather than causing it, as many people have mistakenly believed in the past (perhaps even a certain President?).

The effects of climate change are not limited to particular regions of the world. For instance, many countries ringed by the Pacific Ocean have experienced the effects of El Niño and La Niña, which have been more strongly influenced in recent years by the rapidly quickening climate change. El Niño is characterized by unusually warm equatorial water in the Pacific, which leads to increased rainfall and destructive flooding from the southern tier of the US to Peru, as well as dry, drought-like weather in the west Pacific, resulting in the devastating bush fires in Australia. On the other hand, La Niña is primarily distinguished by unusually cold equatorial water in the Pacific, which causes increased rainfall in the west Pacific like in Southeast Asian countries, along with droughts and drier than normal conditions.

Given the severity of the flooding and fires/droughts, it is easy to imagine the catastrophic effects these two events have on the economy, the environment, and society. They result in fatalities and serious injuries, damage to homes and habitats, and the destruction of farms and commercial establishments.

You can see the effects of climate change on television right now: rising sea levels that have caused the Maldives to disappear and contributed to the extinction of the Bramble Cay melomys, the only endemic mammal of the Great Barrier Reef; flooding in Bangladesh and Nepal; wildfires and unrelenting drought in California; the recent storms in the Caribbean; winter storms flying across the Atlantic causing damage to Europe on landfall; an example of a loss of biodiversity.
