What are the names of three neurotransmitters and their functions?

Answer 1

Acetylcholine, Glutamate and Serotonin are three examples of neurotransmitters.

Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that enable neurotransmision. The only direct action of a neurotransmitter is to activate a receptor.

Acetylcholine It was the first neurotransmitter to be discovered in the peripheral and central nervous system. It activates skeletal muscles in th somatic nervous system. It may excite or inhibit internal organs in the autonomic system. It also operates in many regions of the brain.

Glutamate It is used in a majority of excitatory synapses in the brain and spinal cord. It is also used at most modifiable synapses and is capable of increasing and decreasing in strength. Modifiable synapses are the main memory storage elements in the brain.

Serotonin It functions to regulate appetite, sleep , memory and learning, temperature, mood , behaviour, muscle contraction, function of cardiovascular system and endocrine system. Lower concentrations of serotonin are often related to depression,
