What are the goals of the Orion space program?

Answer 1

To carry people beyond low Earth orbit. It's the vehicle that is intended to carry astronauts to Mars.

In terms of manned space flight, humanity has done little more than escape Earth's gravity well. Currently people orbit the Earth in the International Space Station and by far the furthest any human has ever traveled has been to the Moon and back.

Orion is the next generation of manned space vehicles and will allow humans to fly to asteroids and even to Mars.

Answer 3

The primary goals of the Orion space program include crewed exploration beyond low Earth orbit, particularly missions to the Moon and potentially beyond, such as to Mars. Additionally, Orion aims to provide a spacecraft capable of supporting long-duration space missions, including habitats and life support systems necessary for deep space travel. Orion also serves as a key component of NASA's Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and establish a sustainable presence there. Overall, the Orion program aims to advance human space exploration capabilities and enable future missions to destinations beyond Earth's orbit.
