What are the differences between the steady-state model of the universe and the Big Bang model of the universe?

Answer 1

The currently held view is that the Big Bang resulted in an inflationary Universe as opposed to the static model suggested by the Steady State theory.

Doppler red shift of spectral lines indicates that the Universe is expanding. Einstein had originally postulated the need for a cosmological constant because the widely held view at the time was the Steady state theory, which held that the Universe was constant in size. This approach has been discarded. The Big Bang implies that the Universe evolved from a singularity and that the Universe is inflationary, being finite and unbounded.

Answer 2

The steady-state model posits a continuously expanding universe without a specific origin, while the Big Bang model suggests a finite starting point for the universe's expansion approximately 13.8 billion years ago.

When evaluating a one-sided limit, you need to be careful when a quantity is approaching zero since its sign is different depending on which way it is approaching zero from. Let us look at some examples.
