What are some of the factors that contributed to the decline of the Mughal Empire?

Answer 1

The Mugal-Maratha Wars destroyed much of India and bankrupted the Mughals. Ayrangzeb spent the last 26 years of his life fruitlessly try to destroy the Hindus.

The Mughal Empire was at its height when Aurangzeb, a devout Muslim, overthrew his father Shah Jahan and dealt with his two elder brothers to seize power. He also undid the previous tolerance toward Hindus.

After demolishing several important temples in Hindi, Aurangzeb launched an unending war that never quite managed to destroy his adversaries, requiring 100,000 men and 300,000 different pack animals annually for 26 years.

Following Aurangzeb's death, the Mughals were unable to maintain the territory, and it significantly shrank.
