What are some examples of immunological memory?

Let's say that you were exposed to measles as a youngster.
All you remember is the horrible rash and feeling awful.
Well, your body will 'remember' that encounter, for years to come.

Why is this the case? Upon activation of the particular branch of immunity, T and B cells divide quickly in order to carry out their tasks, one of which is to produce "memory" T and B cells. These cells are then expected to detect the same invader in the future and, hopefully, to do so in a timely manner. Other examples include the mumps and chickenpox viruses, as well as vaccines for all of these; many (though not all) infections that you recover from, such as measles and some types of pneumonia, will not be able to infect you again for variable periods of time, all because the memory cells 'wipe out' the invader before a second infection can occur. Vaccines, those'shots' we hear about in the news, are the best and yes, the safest method of preventing a variety of diseases.

Immunological memory can be exemplified by the following: 1. Memory B cells: These cells are generated during the primary immune response to an antigen and stay in the body for a long time. They can quickly recognize and respond to the same antigen upon re-exposure, resulting in a faster and more robust secondary immune response; 2. Memory T cells: Memory T cells are generated during the primary immune response and can quickly recognize and respond to specific antigens upon re-exposure. They help to quickly and efficiently eliminate pathogens during secondary immune responses; 3. Long-lasting antibody production: Following an initial exposure to an antigen, the body produces antibodies specific to that antigen. Upon re-exposure, memory B cells quickly differentiate.
